How to Deal with Dizziness in Children
Dizziness in children is often difficult to detect. Children are at times unable to explain the problem properly and in their playfulness may not notice it at all.
If a healthy child suddenly feels lightheaded or unsteady, there is not much to worry about. It may be a natural phenomenon caused by a simple spinning motion during playtime or due to moving up very fast from a particular position.
Please also note that vertigo and dizziness are not one and the same thing. Dizziness is an overall feeling of being lightheaded, unsteady, disoriented etc. symptoms of which we will discuss in details in a section below. Vertigo, on the other hand, is a different and definite kind of dizziness. Vertigo in children may be suspected if they complain of dizziness accompanied by a spinning sensation of the entire room and the sensation of titling, rocking and/or flipping.
However, if either vertigo or dizziness persists and aggravates you should consult your doctor immediately because studies indicate that many of the cases of dizziness in children go unreported because they cannot be identified easily.
Common Causes of Dizziness in Kids
The cause of dizziness in children is varied. One has to identify whether the cause is physiological or psychological. Dizziness is caused by the conditions mentioned below:
Ear Problems
Disorder of the inner ear or Meniere's disease.
Excessive buildup of fluid in the inner ear.
Some other inner-ear problem or infection
Brain or Head Problems
Migraine: A disease marked mainly by a specific type of headache, motion sickness, nausea and some other signs and symptoms. However, note that a vestibular migraine may not be accompanied by a headache. It may rather involve vertigo, motion, light sensitivity etc.
Epilepsy: A problem in the functioning of the brain cells.
Chiari 1: Malformation of the cerebellar (part of the brain) tonsils.
Genetic ataxia: Damage in the cerebellum, spinal cord or some other nerve because of a faulty gene.
A brain tumour
Head injury
Other Medical Problems
Benign Paroxysmal Vertigo that is accompanied by bouts of vertigo and balance problem without hearing loss or tinnitus.
MDD (Mal de Debarquement) is a kind of vertigo, rocking sensations that happen after a boat, ship or any other kind of sea travel.
Drop in blood pressure, accompanied by Syncope or temporary fainting.
Hyperventilation (over-breathing) or holding one’s breath
Hypothyroidism, where the thyroid gland doesn’t produce enough thyroid hormones.
A cardiac problem
Developmental delay
Muscle pain or problems
Dehydration
Anaemia
Psychological distress
Hysteria
Seizures
Anxiety
Signs and Symptoms of Dizziness
The first step is to understand if the child is really suffering from clinical dizziness. Watch out if the child persistently complains of a feeling of being:
Light-headed
Heavy-headed
Foggy or cloudy sensation
Woozy movement or feeling
Spinning head
Unsteady gait
Darting/jumping eyes
In very young children it is very difficult to detect. Watch out if the child:
Reports that his/her tummy or head feels uncomfortable
Walks unsteadily
Clumsy in their activities
Tends to fall down
Displays disturbance or developmental delay in motor skills like difficulty on holding the head upright, crawling, standing and finally walking.
In extreme cases, dizziness may be accompanied by unconsciousness/fainting as well. Please see a doctor for treatment immediately.
How to Treat Dizziness in Children?
Dizziness can be temporary and do not require treatment if it is caused by simple movement changes during playtime or a simple ear infection. However, treatment is required if the child complains of persistent dizziness. The treatment will depend upon the main cause of dizziness. Some of the possible treatment methods are:
In case of Meniere’s disease diuretics are used to reduce water retention.
Increased water intake and salt intake in case of dehydration.
Rehabilitation exercises and physical therapy like head exercises for vertigo.
Cardiac interventions if any heart problems are detected.
Conventional treatment, therapy and medication for anaemia, epilepsy, migraine, Chiari 1, genetic ataxia, head injury, developmental issues.
High-dose steroids and vestibular rehabilitation under a specialist may be recommended for dizziness that is caused due to a viral infection and does not resolves on its own and causes long-term balance deficits for weeks, months or even years.
In dizziness caused by certain vestibular problems accompanied by anxiety, doctors may suggest habituation-based vestibular rehabilitation with a physical therapist, cognitive behavioural therapy and selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) therapy.
Surgery, in rare cases, such as severe brain tumours.
When to Consult a Doctor?
You should see a doctor immediately if the child complains of dizziness along with:
Head injury
Stiff neck
High fever
Vision problems
Loss of hearing
Speech problems
Weakness in legs or difficulty walking
Chest discomfort/pain and/or breathing problems
Slow pulse
Since dizziness is difficult to detect in children you must not ignore any complaints, signs or symptoms. It is important to get treatment early because dizziness may be caused by some serious underlying diseases. Read more

Easy Indian Food Swaps to Lose Weight
Love Indian food but scared of the calories? You aren't alone! It's tasty but so rich that just reaching for a piece of naan makes you think twice. Fortunately, you can learn how to lose weight by dieting with Indian food to keep your taste buds and your waist happy.
You think of Indian food and you picture creamy curries and butter soaked rotis. In short, there goes your diet. But, you’ll be surprised to know that there are several healthy options in Indian food that’ll keep your diet intact and prevent adding on the calories.
An Indian Diet Plan to Lose Weight
1. No MMMs, Please!
The three cornerstones of Indian cooking are masala, malai and makhani. They make dishes delicious, but are loaded with calories. Look for healthier Indian foods for weight loss in place of dishes that use these ingredients. For instance, you could opt for tadka dal instead of dal makhani. These days, most restaurants are aware that people are health conscious, so tell the waiter to ensure minimum oil in the food. You can have tawa roti instead of naan as it’s lighter and easier to digest.
2. Stay Away from the Fried Stuff
The simplest trick of how to lose weight by dieting with Indian food is to avoid fried stuff. Fried food is tasty and most eating joints have a wide array of it. Try opting for tandoori food, which is grilled and not fried. Even when you’re looking at main course and gravy dishes, consider ordering food that’s cooked in its gravy rather than being deep fried and having gravy added.
3. Choose Low-Calorie Alternatives
There’s a variety of low calorie Indian food for weight loss that’s available in restaurants. If you’re a rice-eater, ask for brown instead of white. Choose dishes with garlic as it helps reduce appetite and aids digestion. Soy-based dishes are another healthy way to have tasty meals minus the calories. If you’re a non-vegetarian, opt for fish rather than chicken or mutton as they’re higher in fat and tougher to digest.
4. Be Consistent
The mark of a good diet is a planned calorie intake while boosting your metabolism and inducing fat-burning. Do your research and look for a balanced Indian diet for weight loss that can be followed consistently. A good diet should contain minerals, vitamins, essential fats and nutrients in order to be effective. Therefore, sweets and fried foods will have to be minimized. Nutritionists recommend a daily calorie intake of 1,200-1,500 in order to lose weight. However, you should consult your doctor to confirm your intake based on lifestyle, height and weight.
5. Say No to Sugar
You can’t have a healthy Indian diet for weight loss with sugary treats in it. While you may have a weakness for hot jalebis and gulab jamuns, these are not waistline-friendly. If you must have something sweet post meals, have a small piece of jaggery (gur). It’ll satisfy cravings without too many calories.
Get started on an Indian food diet chart to lose weight by making the right eating choices. Whether you eat out or at home, try to include the following: green leafy vegetables, soy products, whole grains, garlic, beans and lentils, nuts and seeds, and fresh fruits. They’re great for health and waist! Read more

I Have My Own Choices and I Plead 'Not Guilty'!
In India, you can be anyone - a murderer, a terrorist and a rapist, and yet you'll be respected. But even God can't help you if you are a bahu (daughter-in-law) in a family that treats you like a child-bearing machine.
Since day one, you are expected to keep trying to have a baby. And how dare you have a brain of your own? You must not have any feelings, dreams, aspirations, a career or expectations. Not at all! And no, I am not from a village or some rural area. I am a part of this 'wannabe' urban society, where people have multiple faces and false reputations to maintain.
"What if you fail to give them a pota (grandson), the heir to their (not so) royal clan? What a disgrace! You have lost the sole meaning of your existence. Why were you put on this planet? No brownie points for guessing! Yes, my love, you must procreate! Come on; even animals do it."
But what if you don't want to or can't? It could be a medical reason or any other reason for that matter! You must be sent back to your maika (mother's place) because your in-laws don't want to live with such shame. You don't have a right to live!
Unfortunately, that's the fate of many women who can't conceive. Not that they don't want a child, but if they can't have one, they are either forced to get a divorce, so that their husband can have another child-bearing or let's call it "a fertile wife", or you are murdered. Some, who are lucky (which is a very less percentage) get the support of their husbands and face the wrath. But, others, who have husbands that are momma's boys, have to take it all by themselves. They have no support and are on their own.
This is a shoutout to all such women! Darlings, you are capable of everything. Your existence doesn't depend on you being able to give birth. Yes, motherhood is a great feeling, but if you can't have it, doesn't mean you lose your right to live with dignity and pride. You have every damn right to have feelings, dreams, aspirations and expectations. Hold that chin up, rise and shine, and don't let the mere fact that you can't be a mother naturally define the purpose of your existence. It is your life, and it has to be your decision whether you want a baby, want to adopt or don't want a baby!

7 Ways to Help your Friend Get Through Divorce
Did your bestie just tell you that she’s getting a divorce? She must be devastated and heartbroken. Drop everything and rush to her side. This is the time when she needs your love, understanding and support the most. Even if you aren’t sure what to say, don't let it deter you from going to your friend. You can actually do a lot of things to make her feel better.
How to Help a Friend Going Through a Divorce Manage Life Easier
1. Plan a girls’ night out
There's nothing like an outing with female friends to take the mind off the worst of troubles. Call up a few of your close mutual girlfriends and go to a club or restaurant. A night of dancing, giggling and gossiping will definitely help your friend forget her pain for some time.
2. Let her vent
When helping a friend through a divorce, be ready to listen to her lament about her problems. You might have to hear it for a long time. But, you know what? Allowing her to release her bottled up emotions will make her feel better and slowly learn to move on.
3. Listen and validate
At times your friend might be bogged down by the fear of what her future will hold and whether she made the right decision to get a divorce. She may also worry about society's reaction to her divorce. Your job is to reassure her and extend your full support.
4. Plan a short getaway
What your friend needs is a time-out from all that’s going on. Plan a holiday and if she’s game, call a few close friends. Make sure you don't take her to a place where she and her ex-husband have been to. Choose a good resort with nice food and a relaxing view to get her mind off her troubles.
5. Mind your tongue
You might feel angry at your friend's husband for having put her into this predicament. But avoid the blame game and don't join in if she complains about her soon-to-be ex-husband. Your advice for your friend going through a divorce should be to let bygones be bygones.
6. Be patient
Your friend might start taking you for granted and expect you to pamper her. She may expect you to prioritize her needs over all else. Remember, this is just a passing phase, so humour her. Keep your cool if she gets upset and passes nasty comments.
7. Shopping
Shopping is a great way to raise dwindling spirits. Make her feel better by taking her to the nearest mall and trying on clothes and accessories to distract her.
There’s no answer to what to say to a friend going through a divorce. Most times, you just listen. But there’s a lot you can do. The support that you extend to her should be ongoing. Even after she’s over her pain and moved on, check on her every once in a while to make sure she’s doing fine. Read more

It is advisable to get yourself evaluated by a doctor and follow doctors advise properly. You can also book online doctor’s appointment on FirstCry where the doctor can help you and guide you properly.
Thanks and take care

A. Actually on the ovulation time only you can conceive so yes if things are right with you you can go ahead with the conception but with what the details you have mentioned it would be better to have a discussion with your gynaecologist prior to you proceed to your ovulation and conception

A. Hello dear! If your pregnancy is going on fine without any high risk factors then it’s okay. Still, would advise you to check with your doctor once before going further. Maintain a good personal hygiene routine and a healthy lifestyle
