Why Bisleri is the Best I can give my Daughter
We parents have an enormous responsibility when it comes to the well-being of our children. We have to be very picky and careful about what we give them. Being a mom of 3.5 years old, I am constantly in the search of the best resources for her, be it her food, clothing, books, toys and most importantly the water she drinks. Like any health conscious mother, I used to give boiled water to my little one, since she started drinking water. This was a decision I took as I had been suggested by other mothers and elders in my family. However, little did I know that this is not enough to ensure that the water I am giving her is the purest of its form. After doing much research I found out that boiling the water may actually kill bacteria, but what it does not do is not affecting lead, pesticides or any such sort of toxic ingredients inside it, rather increasing the concentration of those in the process of boiling. Then I took a major decision and shifted my focus on Mineral water. A fortnight back I also had the opportunity to be at the offices of Bisleri, the pioneer of mineral water in India and I will let you know the in-depth knowledge that I received from that highly insightful day.
Bisleri is the most loved packaged drinking water available in India. So much so, that the concept of mineral or packaged drinking water is synonymous to the brand name. In my quest to avail the purest form of drinking water and after the tour in Bisleri premises, I could understand the reason.
Bisleri Goes through a 10 Step Quality process
When we boil our drinking water, it is just one-step that we go through and nothing at all. But my favourite packaged drinking water Bisleri goes through 10 thorough Quality steps.
Primarily the water is collected carefully from different sources like underground, river etc. This process undergoes few quality testing processes and then only given green signal to go through processing.
Unlike other brands of packaged drinking water, Bisleri goes through Ozonization process that ensures that water is 50 times more powerful than those containing normal chlorine are.
Then it goes through the sand filtration where many solid impurities are drained away. It is followed by carbon filtration process then where any unwanted colour, odour or toxic pesticides are got rid of. Then comes the RO process where any water soluble solids are removed. After that comes the most important step and that is the mineralization of the water as in the process of RO, a lot of good minerals get removed from the water. In the mineralization process adequate amount of mineral like magnesium and potassium are added.
After this Bisleri water goes through Micron filtration process and once again for ozonization to sustain the purity and superior quality.
And then this purest form of water gets bottled into various sized containers (bottles), which are actually blown out inside the plat itself. Finally after so many steps of quality assurance, the bottles are code printed with batch number and other details.
Bisleri Goes through 114 Tests
One of the major reasons why I selected Bisleri packaged drinking water for my little one is because it goes through 114 tests to ensure its pure quality and taste.
Why Mineralization in Bisleri Water is important?
Bisleri drinking water goes through a thorough process of mineralization where essential minerals like potassium and magnesium are added in the water. This, apart from adding taste also help to maintain the mineral balance of the consumer.
Magnesium consists of 99% of our body’s mineral content. It helps in bone strengthening and also improves the nervous system. It also is functional towards other health issues like headaches and indigestion.
Potassium is helpful for cell functioning properties and also help to lower elevated blood pressure.
Why Double Ozonization in Bisleri is important?
The 10 steps quality process of Bisleri water goes through double ozonization. Instead of going through chlorination like other packaged drinking water, Bisleri performs Ozonization, which by itself is an indicator how good and healthy the water is.
Ozone is good for our immune system, it can kill Cancer cells and HIV, detoxifies our body, kills bacteria and viruses on contact and can reduce acidity.
Why is Bisleri Water better than Boiling Water?
Bisleri water goes through a 10 step quality process and is sealed protectively, while no matter how we store the boiled water, its not going to be as protected as a sealed bottle. One of the major plus points of Bisleri water is it can also remove chemical contamination on top of physical contamination. Boiling water cannot remove suspended impurities like dirt or mud while the 10 step process of Bisleri water makes it free of these particles. The taste of Bisleri water is sweet while boiling water has a very bland and boring taste. The added minerals like potassium and magnesium in Bisleri water makes it win over Boiled water too.
So, fellow mommies I would just love to share that how elevated and proud I am today that I had decided the right form of drinking water for my daughter by choosing Bisleri Packaged drinking water at the right time. I am sure a lot of you have already started it and can make a difference of how it has influenced your family’s health and well-being in a positive way.

Brittle Bone Disease (Osteogenesis Imperfecta) in Babies
Osteogenesis Imperfecta means “Imperfect Bone Formation”. It is a condition in which bones break easily due to some mild trauma and at times even without any apparent cause. In some severe cases, the baby may suffer fractures while he is in his mother’s womb whereas in milder forms the patient may experience multiple fractures over his entire lifetime. A person suffers from it when collagen (a protein in our body which makes our bones strong) production is less. It occurs due to defective genes passed on from the parent.
What Is Brittle Bone Disease?
Brittle Bone Disease also known as Osteogenesis Imperfecta is a condition in which the bones are weak as a result of which the bones become brittle and are prone to breaking easily. Along with bones, the disease weakens the muscles, makes the teeth brittle and may also cause loss of hearing in people.
Types of Brittle Bone Disease
This disorder is characterised by a fragile skeleton. There are four types of genes responsible for collagen production. A combination of any of these genes or combination of all four together can be affected.
Type 1 OI
This is the mildest and the most common form of the disease that a baby can have. In this type, the body produces normal quality collagen, but it is not sufficient enough for the body’s needs. It can cause bone fractures due to mild trauma and may also affect teeth causing dental cracks and cavities.
Type 2 OI
This is the most severe form of OI and is fatal. The Collagen production in this type of the disease is either insufficient or of poor quality. People suffering from this type of the disease have bone deformities like narrow chest, broken or malformed ribs and underdeveloped lungs. The pregnant woman can bear a miscarriage, or the baby can be stillborn
Type 3 OI
This is another severe form of the disease. In this, the body produces enough collagen, but it is not of the desired quality. As a result, the affected baby’s bones start breaking in their mother’s womb itself. Bone deformities can be seen too, and they get worse as the child grows older.
Type 4 OI
The symptoms of this type may range from mild to severe. Like Type 3 OI, the collagen production is enough but of is of poor quality. As a result, children born with this type have bowed legs. The good news is that the bowing tends to lessen with age.
Osteogenesis Imperfecta Causes
Direct Genetic Inheritance From A Parent
When a parent who suffers from OI passes on the faulty gene to the child, he is also born with the same OI as the parent.
Dominant Genetic Mutation
About one – fourth cases of OI are born into a family that has no history of the disease and are not a result of inheritance from the parents. Rather it occurs due to a new or spontaneous genetic mutation.
Osteogenesis Imperfecta Symptoms
The symptoms of Osteogenesis Imperfecta or Brittle Bone Disease vary from type to type in their degree of Bone fragility and fractures and in some cases bone deformity.
Type 1 OI
Bone fractures happen mostly in the early years of a child and decrease in frequency after attaining puberty
The person may be a few inches shorter than the same gender relatives
Little or no bone deformity
In some rare cases, the person may suffer from brittle teeth
Some people may also suffer from loss of hearing
Blue sclera (bluish colour in the white portion of the eye)
Gets easily bruised
There may be mild delay in motor
Type 2 OI
Severe body deformation like undersized chest and under-developed lungs
Usually stillborn or the baby may die in the first months of life
Some who live to be adults suffer several fractures
Extremely short stature with a tiny chest and as a result, underdeveloped lungs
Type 3 OI
Fractures at birth
Severe early hearing loss
Loose joints and poor muscle development in arms and legs
The rib cage is barrel-shaped
The individual has triangular shaped face
May suffer from respiratory problems
Type 4 OI
Fractures common mostly before puberty
Curved spine
Loose joints
Teeth may be affected
The bone structure may get enlarged in places where fractures have occurred or even without any occurrence of fractures
Diagnosing Osteogenesis Imperfecta
The first step towards diagnosing OI is going through family history. Once that is done, the doctor will examine the medical history of the person. The doctor will then ask for -
X-ray test to evaluate the bone structure, internal tissues and internal organs.
Biopsy of the skin to examine the collagen.
Audiometry test to detect hearing test.
In a case where the pregnant woman has OI, a procedure called Chorionic Villus sampling is done in which cells from the Placenta are taken for testing. This tells if there is any collagen defect in the foetus which could lead to OI in the baby.
Another procedure called Amniocentesis is done by inserting a thin needle into the amniotic sac to draw out the amniotic fluid.
Treatment For Osteogenesis Imperfecta
There is no treatment for completely eliminating OI. However, treatments can be given to prevent or control symptoms, and it can vary from one individual to another.
Fracture Care
Care should be taken to heal the fractures and to minimise them by being careful not to cause even the slightest of trauma.
Physical Therapy
It is usually a combination of muscle strengthening and aerobics. Children would be given exercises by physiotherapists to strengthen muscles and aid in improving motor skills which are usually delayed due to OI.
Medication
Medicines can be prescribed to ease the pain. Vitamin D and Calcium should be taken to improve bone health.
Surgery
In some cases, surgeries can be carried out to amend deformities.
Bracing
People affected by OI can wear support braces in the legs to provide support for weak muscles, decrease pain and keep the joints properly aligned.
Counselling
People suffering from OI may suffer from low self-esteem or personality disorders. Therefore Psychiatric counselling is an essential part of the rehabilitation program.
Related problems due to OI like loss of hearing may require these patients to wear hearing aids and crown/braces in case of dental deformities. Some people with underdeveloped lungs could also require oxygen administered from external sources.
Taking Care of Your Infant
Infants are fragile and vulnerable. And infants with OI are even more so. Therefore infants with OI should be carefully handled since they are more prone to fractures and may have several bone deformities. Here is a list of things parents should do while handling OI infants.
While carrying the infant or moving him, the parent/caregiver should be slow and gentle. Any hastiness, pushing, pulling or bending the infant could result in fractures. While picking up the infant, care should be taken not to hold him around the rib cage. This could fracture the rib cage.
The head and trunk should be supported with one hand, and another hand should be under the baby’s buttocks. Utmost care should be taken while handling the infant during his dress/diaper change or while feeding.
Placing OI affected infants on their stomachs could suffocate them.
Infants with OI cannot feed well. Therefore they should be breastfed more often than others. Severe OI in infants may cause breathing difficulties. In such a case, the mother can pump her breastmilk and feed her baby from a bottle.
The infant should be re-positioned time to time while in his bed so that the soft skull does not turn flat on one side.
Lastly, infants with OI should be given the same amount of love as you would give to your other child without OI. This being a lifelong disorder, parents have to be mentally prepared to overcome the hurdles associated with this disorder and bring up their baby in the best way possible.
Locating the Fracture in Your Infant and Ways to Deal With It
Sudden crying could be a sign of pain caused by a fracture in an OI affected baby. Firstly try and calm him down and once he calms down a bit, try and touch his body parts gently. If he starts crying on touching a certain part of his body, it may be fractured. Pick him up gently and place him in the car seat carefully with adequate padding. Be sure to drive slowly so that there is no jerking. At the hospital do not allow anyone other else than the doctor or the nurse to handle the child.
What Is the Long-Term Outlook?
The Long Time Outlook differs from type to type.
Type 1 OI
People affected by this type can lead normal lives in comparison to some of the severe types.
Type 2 OI
It is a severe form of the disease and usually fatal. The baby may be stillborn or may die in few months. While some suffering children from this type of OI may live to adulthood, they may suffer several bone deformities.
Type 3 OI
Children with this type may suffer severe Bone deformities and may have to take the help of wheelchairs to move around. Their lifespan is also shorter than the milder types of Type 1 or Type 4.
Type 4 OI
People with this form of the disease may have to take the help of crutches or wheelchairs to walk around, but their lifespan is normal.
Precautions to Take
The Brittle Bone Disease in babies can cause a lot of worries for the parents. A lot of care and precaution should be taken while handling such infants. Here is a list of things to be kept in mind -
Osteogenesis Imperfecta in Infants causes Fractures by a simple push or a pull. Therefore care should be taken to avoid it.
Caution should be taken while inserting IVs, taking blood pressure or taking an X-Ray.
The dosage of medicines should be according to the size and not the age in OI affected infants.
In case you feel that your baby has had a fracture, refrain from moving that particular part of his body.
Do not keep an infant’s head positioned only on one side. His head position should be carefully changed now and then so that his soft skull may not flatten only on one side.
Never place your hand under the rib cage while lifting a baby with OI. It may cause a fracture in the rib cage.
The thought of bringing up a child having a disability due to Osteogenesis Imperfecta may seem like a Herculean task, but with time you will come to terms with it. Along with patience and lots of care, parents of children affected by the disease should not shy away from filling their lives with love and affection.

How to Teach Your Child to Blow Their Nose - 5 Easy Tips
Becoming a parent is the easiest way to know which habits and behaviours we take for granted in our lives. Helping your kids to learn them the right way can seem pretty easy, but it can be quite challenging in truth. Teaching your kid to blow his nose can seem impossible as the days go by, but a few tips can change the game in your favour.
Tips To Teach Kids To Blow Their Nose
Knowing that it can be difficult for children to understand how exactly to blow air through the nose to clear it up, a few tips and tricks can help them get the hang of it. Repeating them enough can help them blow their nose on their own in good time.
1. Blowing Air From The Mouth And Nose
Many kids take some time in blowing air voluntarily from either the nose or the mouth and doing so with good force. Breathing takes place reflexively and children barely even realise that they are doing it. Their lung capacities take some time in reaching the point where they can blow steadily and with good force, too.
Until then, you can always indulge in small activities or games that focus on blowing air out of the mouth. Let them make an “o” shape with their mouth and blow air on each other. Use birthday candles to amp the fun or make use of paper toys and blow them around.
Once they can blow air properly, ask them to shut their mouth and attempt to blow. This will instantly make them aware of how the air flows out of the nose instead.
2. Using A Handkerchief Or Tissue The Right Way
Whether your child can blow his nose correctly or is still learning to do so, it is imperative that he learns to wipe his nose using a hanky or a tissue paper correctly. Blowing the nose will help clear it up quickly, but there will be instances when he has a runny nose, or a booger finds its way out of the nostril.
Your kid might rub his nose excessively with his hands and then interact with other objects, making it even more unhygienic. Teach him how to use a hanky and clean his nose and the part above his upper lip. Let him try it out on your nose as well and understand how to clean it up.
Some children might have trouble coordinating their hands and face together in the right way. Teach your kid to start from the bridge of the nose and run his fingers down to the tip. Once he’s there, he can use the hanky to rub all the areas close to the tip slowly.
3. Cleaning Up During Bath Time
Making use of a hanky or tissue can make things messy quickly. Also, using an external object close to their nose does make some children a bit uncomfortable. Let them get used to their nose being interacted with. And the best time to do so is during their bath.
If your child has a runny nose, let him do his best in clearing it up. Teach him to blow air correctly and ask him to do so with his mouth closed. Your child might blow out forcibly and get the mucus and booger all over the place. Fret not, as it can quickly be cleaned with the bath water.
When drying your kid, use the towel and let him dry his nose with it. While doing so, ask him to clean it well and blow his nose if he can. He will be much more receptive to it than earlier.
4. Seeing The Act Of Blowing And Cleaning The Nose In A Mirror
You might have noticed that children have trouble rubbing their eyes properly or scratching an itch on their face. At a young age, most kids do not have a good understanding of the way their face is structured and rely primarily on guesswork. When it comes to cleaning the nose, this also poses a major problem in most cases.
Use the mirror in your home for this. Start by telling your child to touch his nose while looking in the mirror. Use both hands while doing so and then hand him a hanky while doing the same. Once he can interact with his nose, teach him how to clean the nostrils and hold the hanky while blowing his nose.
It may take him a few tries to get things right. You can sit with him in front of the mirror, too. Children do learn a lot from observation, and he can try and mimic your actions while looking in the mirror. Avoid the confusion of left and right by sitting close to the mirror, so that only the faces are visible.
5. Keep It Simple And Learn With Fun
It might seem difficult to teach your kid to blow his nose correctly, but it is even more difficult for him to figure it out for himself. Children will observe how easily you do it yourself and will struggle with the fact that it is not easy for them. Try to guide your child through it.
The moment it starts getting stressful for the child or you scold him for not cleaning his nose correctly, he might give it up altogether and prefer to play around with a runny nose. Help your child understand the discomfort of having a nose that leaks constantly and is filled. When that gets in the way, he will be more open to learning the right way to clean it up.
Figuring out how to get a child to blow their nose is one of those challenges that come across in your life as a parent. Just like potty training, proper practice and guidance can help make things proceed in the right direction. In case your child seems to experience a runny nose more often than others, talk to your doctor and check if you can make use of an aspirator to help him out with it.

DVT (Deep Vein Thrombosis) in Pregnancy
Along with many physiological changes in the body during pregnancy, an increase in the susceptibility to Deep Vein Thrombosis(DVT) is also found in many women. Veins are tubes that transport blood in the body, and blockage in these veins is termed as venous thrombosis. During pregnancy, a woman has a six times higher chance of developing such a clot in the vein, compared to a non-pregnant woman. Learn about the various aspects of DVT, its causes, symptoms, treatment and prevention.
What is Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT)?
In deep vein thrombosis, clotting of blood occurs in the veins found in the leg and pelvic region. Clotting of blood is a normal physiological process in the body and occurs when there are any cuts or openings in the blood vessel. In the case of DVT, this occurs inside the vein, constricting the flow of blood resulting in serious implications, if left unidentified. Thrombosis in pregnancy is caused by an increase in the blood clotting capacity of the body during pregnancy, as a means of preventing excessive blood loss during delivery. This can sometimes result in a blood clot in the leg during pregnancy.
How Common is DVT During Pregnancy?
DVT during pregnancy is not very common and occurs in only one in thousand pregnant women. The risk of developing DVT is six times more in a pregnant woman, with an increased chance of occurrence in the first trimester of pregnancy and six weeks post-partum.
Why is It More Common When Pregnant?
The body experiences numerous physiological changes during pregnancy. These changes are mostly driven by variations in the hormonal levels. One reason is one of the safety precautions that a woman's body takes during pregnancy, which is an increase in the clotting proteins and a decrease in the anti-clotting proteins, to minimize blood loss during delivery. Another factor that can contribute to this condition is pressure exerted by the enlarged uterus on the veins which carry blood to the heart from the lower body.
Causes of DVT
DVT during pregnancy is primarily caused by the hormonal changes the body undergoes during this period.
1. Oestrogen
During pregnancy, the circulating levels of oestrogen hormone are high in the blood, which in turn increases the chances of a blood clot.
2. Uterine Growth
The expansion of uterus that occurs with the development of the foetus, puts a lot of strain on the veins carrying blood back from the lower body to the heart. This also results in clotting of blood inside the veins returning from the extremities.
3. Increase in Body Weight
Excessive weight gain puts a lot of pressure on the veins of the legs and pelvis, leading to increasing the chances of having a DVT.
4. Multiple Pregnancy
Mothers carrying more than one foetus in their womb have a higher risk of developing DVT.
5. Age and Genetics
Women who have a family history of DVT or are expecting a baby at 35 years of age or more are at risk of experiencing venous thrombosis during pregnancy.
DVT Sign and Symptoms
Women who develop DVT during their pregnancy have one or more of the following symptoms:
Pain in one leg accompanied by swelling
Visibly enlarged veins
Pain while walking
The feeling of tenderness in the thighs and calf muscle
Diagnosis
Based on the symptoms and previous family history of DVT, the medical practitioner usually performs a Doppler ultrasound examination to check for any venous blocks. The Doppler ultrasound estimates the speed of blood flow in the veins and flags the areas that have reduced flow. The diagnosis of DVT can be very tricky, and in some cases, the doctor may prescribe a D-dimer test. This test works by identifying the presence of any blood clots in the blood vessels.
To quantify and characterize the block, doctors also carry out a venogram, in which a dye is injected into the veins to help in clearly visualizing the blockages.
Who is Most At the Risk of Getting DVT?
Pregnant women who have one of the following risk factors have an increased susceptibility to developing DVT.
A family history of DVT
Previous history of DVT
Age above 35 years
Obesity or weight gain
Women who travel long distances during pregnancy
Smoking
Inactive lifestyle
Multiple pregnancies
C-section delivery
Clotting or inflammation due to infection in pregnancy
Treatment of DVT in Pregnancy
Once a diagnosis of DVT during pregnancy is made, the doctor usually prescribes medications to thin the blood. This medication is continued after delivery up to at least six weeks post-partum, as there are chances of block formation even after the birth of the baby.
Does Deep Vein Thrombosis Affect the Baby?
Typically, DVT causes discomfort to the mother but does not affect the baby's growth and development. Rare situations where the block moves up till the lungs, affecting its function, it can hamper the oxygen supply to the foetus. Also, during delivery, when the mother loses excessive blood because of the blood thinners, it can affect the baby.
Management
Management of DVT during pregnancy is possible with heparin injections. Heparin is an anticoagulant that inhibits the clotting of blood. Apart from the medication, some lifestyle changes like adopting an active routine, reducing body weight and quitting smoking can also largely prevent the further clotting of blood.
A special kind of compression stockings can be worn to improve the blood circulation in the leg. Apart from that, drinking lot of water and exercising also helps in managing DVT.
How to Reduce the Risk of DVT While Travelling?
The chances of the symptoms of DVT flaring up is high during travel. To reduce the risk while travelling, take precautions like increasing your water intake, ensuring constant movement of the lower body either in the sitting position itself or by walking within the vehicle, and completely avoiding the intake of alcohol.
Can Deep Vein Thrombosis Affect Labour?
If you have been identified to have a tendency to develop DVT, then the doctor would advise you to take some precautions before the delivery. To reduce the risk of developing thrombosis during labour, you can wear the compression stockings while constantly moving around and drink lots of fluids before going to deliver the baby.
If you have already been diagnosed and are on heparin medications, the doctor may ask you to discontinue it as it can interfere with the clotting of blood after delivery.
Can Caesarean Delivery Increase Risk of Getting Blood Clots?
Yes, a C-Section delivery is shown to increase the risk of post-partum blood clots, as compared to a vaginal birth. This is because the body takes necessary precautions and mobilizes its healing mechanisms for an invasive procedure, one of which is an increase in the propensity of the blood to clot.
Prevention
Some of the ways by which you can prevent the occurrence of DVT during pregnancy are,
1. Drinking Lots of Water
Fluid intake is very important in the prevention of DVT as dilutes the blood and prevents it from becoming very thick. This has to be followed throughout pregnancy and even after the delivery to prevent the formation of blood clots.
2. Exercising
If you are at the risk of developing thrombosis during pregnancy, then practising light and safe exercises regularly can immensely help in improving the blood circulation to the body. Exercises that particularly benefit the circulation of the lower body can be helpful in preventing DVT.
3. Move on the Go
If you are having DVT and have to travel long distances on a regular basis, then try to move around inside the bus, flight or train every few minutes to break the resting period. This keeps the circulation alive. If getting up and moving around is not a possibility, then try to do simple twisting and moving exercises in sitting position itself.
4. Wear Stockings
Compression stockings that activate the blood circulation in the leg can be worn during pregnancy and even during labour to avoid clot formation.
DVT is a common condition in pregnancy that many women lack awareness about. It is easily treatable with medications and identifying it at the right time is the key to have a safe and healthy pregnancy.

Budding Parenting--My take on the world of parenting and motherhood!
Hi, everyone! This is my very first blog. I was trying to start for a long time but hadn’t made any headway. The frustration of inertia was becoming too much to bear, so today I kept my foot down and said to myself I have to, come what may. And so, here I am!Another big question in front of me was “how to start and what to write about?”, amongst the many thoughts and ideas fluttering about in my mind. Then I saw my cute little daughter Kaju playing in front of me and the full journey of motherhood spun around me and I got the subject right in front of my mind’s eye that I was looking for all this while – “PARENTING”!Spurred by my moment of clarity, I sat down to put my thoughts to paper. The one thing I constantly kept asking myself was “when was the first time I had the budding thought of parenting?” It was then that I realized that it isn’t something very recent. Instead, my mind travelled back to when I took a small kid in my arms and felt the warmth of that little soul was when my parenting instincts had started budding from. Without my conscious thought, a certain maturity had started budding inside me, once I knew that I wished to be part of bringing another life into this world and seeing to it that it bloomed and became a blossom.Let me share my experience.belong to a nuclear family but I had a very strong, special bond with my neighbours. It was an interaction earlier on, in my formative years, that made me realize my instinctive parenting urge for the first time.I was in secondary school or so when I think I first took care of an infant. So as the tale goes, our next-door neighbours had been blessed with a baby boy. Being their first child, they were quite clueless at times on how to tackle difficult situations which could arise suddenly in the midst of everyday circumstances, let alone even have the presence of mind to deal with it sagely. It was a super-chilly December in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, so the rookie mother decided to give him a warm bath to ward off the chill in the air. Only, she did not have prior experience handling a kid. So somehow during the bath, some soap managed to go inside the baby’s mouth and he started frothing at his mouth and his body was turning a little bluish as well. The panicked mother ran to our house as she was clueless, what to do?We answered her frantic banging at our door to find her in a completely freaked-out state. At first, we were all shocked to see her like that and in her near-hysterical state, she was incoherent and clearly, her agitated state wasn’t helping much. She, with extreme difficulty, explained to us the full situation. My mother ran pell-mell to her house and immediately asked her to switch on the room heater. Then with the baby blanket, she covered the baby and sat down in front of the heater. Lastly, she took a clean cloth and cleared the baby’s mouth from the inside. Slowly the baby normalized and finally slept off. It was then that my mother took a moment off to then console the distraught mother.I was standing next to my mother and was witnessing the events unfold like a thriller movie. I was just surprised at how my mother kept her cool, even in such mayhem. She managed everything without getting hassled just because she had so much more experience (and a cool head on her shoulders. I was mesmerized. So somewhere in my heart from that very moment I started keeping a checklist of things I would do or remember, when I don the role of a mother myself and how best could I handle or avoid such situations when my turn came.We start making our own checklist quite subtly and subconsciously in our minds without even realizing it. Parenting for each of us starts so innocuously and even without any visible effort, we have generally taken our first, formative steps towards a parenting role.Parenting has nothing to do with age. On the contrary, it requires a dash of maturity, sagacity and savvy that is within all of us, waiting to bust through. Some experience it early on in life and for some, it takes a while longer. The moment we interact with some child and we start loving them as we would our own, the parent within us has been born.So this is how the fledgling thoughts of parenthood subtly formed a bud, shoot and have now turned into a sturdy sapling of experience in my life.If you find this story has rung a bell within you, do care to share your own story of how the budding thoughts of parenthood took hold in your life.Happy blogging … hope to hear from you all soon!
